Daniel S. Iacofano, PhD, FAICP, FASLA, is a founding principal of MIG with over 40 years of experience in regional and land use planning, facilitation and public engagement, strategic planning, and organizational development. He has consulted and lectured throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan, and has pioneered many innovative techniques for inter-agency collaboration, community planning and design, and consensus building. Dr. Iacofano has combined his strategic and organizational planning expertise with interactive facilitation techniques to assist countless agencies, organizations, and companies in working together to articulate goals, strategies, and actions for the future.
Dr. Iacofano has been recognized internationally for his leadership in addressing issues related to land use and urban design, regional growth and economic development, river and watershed management, flood control, transportation, habitat conservation, and natural resource management. He is sought after for his expertise in managing multidisciplinary, multi-objective projects; developing and implementing effective public and stakeholder outreach strategies; and building consensus among diverse interests.
Dr. Iacofano’s groundbreaking work has advanced the state of the art in the fields of environmental planning and design; organizational development and strategic planning; public outreach, facilitation, and consensus-building; and downtown/urban planning and design. Many of these visionary projects are now national models in their respective fields. His work has been honored by the National League of Cities, the International Downtown Association (IDA), the American Planning Association (APA), American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), and the American Society of Landscape Architects.
Profiled in Landscape Architecture magazine and other publications, Dr. Iacofano is in demand as a consultant and lecturer across the country. He is the author of many books and articles, and served as a visiting lecturer at Stanford University, the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of California at Davis, teaching courses in landscape architecture, urban and environmental conflict management, urban planning, group process management and advanced communications.
Dr. Iacofano received his Ph.D. in Environmental Planning from the University of California at Berkeley; his M.S. in Environmental Psychology from the University of Surrey, England; and his Bachelor of Urban Planning from the University of Cincinnati. He was elected to the College of Fellows for both the American Institute of Certified Planners and the American Society of Landscape Architects to honor and recognize his contributions to both professions.
